What this means for our Hawks is they will continue to do as they have been doing for the past four weeks. They will collaborate with their teachers in the online setting, continue to prepare for their AP exams, submit their assignments through Google Classroom, and participate in tutorial sessions as needed. All of that is as we would expect. The toughest part is the realization of what we are not able to do……finish our spring sports seasons, attend our Spring Formal, plan and participate in the Power Puff/Powder Puff games……. just to name a few. There is a deep sense of disappointment for all of us.
We will forge ahead and do what we need to and that is why I remain so proud of each and every one of our students, our faculty and staff, and our faithful parents. We have quite a team, and we will get through this together. Please know we are making plans to recognize the many academic and athletic accomplishments of this school year and will share the details with you once confirmed. We are also discerning the best way to celebrate and graduate our Senior Class of 2020. We will keep you posted on those details as well.
What we absolutely do know is that we miss our students every day and our beautiful and blessed school campus lies in wait for them to return.
Please stay well,
Please know we miss our students dearly and the brightest part of every day is seeing their faces, even if it is virtually.
This is a most extraordinary time. There will be many blessings through the struggles that lie ahead. We will stay united in prayer and most grateful for your continued commitment to Our Lady of the Hills.
As the spread of COVID-19 continues to increase, we have been directed by the Archdiocese of San Antonio Catholic Schools Office to begin online instruction effective March 23rd through at least April 3rd at which time the situation will be reevaluated. The current plan is for students to return to the OLH campus on Monday, April 6th. In order to continue instruction and finish the school year on time with minimal disruption, OLH will conduct virtual classes during this time.
OLH has conducted teacher training on hosting virtual classes using the free online tool Zoom and the posting of online assignments using Google Classroom. All teachers will conduct virtual classes online daily Monday-Thursday with a specific time schedule to follow. Students will need to create a Zoom account and allow the required download in order to join online classes. Teachers who were not using Google Classroom prior to the closing of schools are in the process of creating those classrooms now and will email the Join codes when they communicate the details for their virtual classroom and continued instruction by Sunday, March 22nd. Students will need to join the Google Classrooms with their OLH email.
From TAPPS, there will be no athletic activities including competitions and practices until April 13th at the earliest. TAPPS will be modifying the manner in which Academic and Fine Arts contests will be conducted and that information has been sent to all Academic, Fine Arts and Speech participants. The OLH Spring Formal schedule for March 28th will be postponed and scheduled for a later date. The next HSPT scheduled for April 4th will also be postponed and scheduled for a later date.
We continue to pray for the health and well-being of all our community members and for all those afflicted around the world.
